Two arrested after shooting at Walnut and Pearl streets

Somerville -

Two men have been arrested today in connection with a shooting at Walnut and Pearl streets, according to a press release from Somerville Police.

Billy J. Georges, 21, of 7 Flintlock Road, Randolph and Thomas Giancarlo, 18, of 134 Simonds St., Fitchburg will be arraigned in Somerville District Court today.

At about 4:09 p.m. yesterday, Somerville Police received a report of a fight with bats near the corner of Pearl Street and Walnut Street. While officers were on their way to the scene, in came calls of shots fired at Pearl and Walnut Streets.

Reportedly, no one was injured, but a single shell casing was found at 206 Pearl St.

According to a statement released by Capt. Paul Upton of the Somerville Police Department, the investigation resulted in the arrest of two individuals who were lallegedly involved in the shooting.

Armed with a search warrant and two police dogs from Everett Police and Massachusetts State Police, Somerville Detectives also searched an apartment at 111 Walnut St.where the two suspects had been found.  The search resulted in the recovery of two firearms and other evidence not related to this incident.  A .45 caliber semi-auto pistol that was recently stolen and a second 9 millimeter pistol with an obliterated serial number were found hidden inside two cereal boxes, according to the report.

Canine teams from the State Police and members of the Everett department were on scene. Police found two suspects had ducked into 111 Walnut St., and were lined up on the street. Witnesses were piled into police cars with blacked-out windows, and slowly driven before the suspects.

Apparently identified by witnesses, the suspects were then cuffed and taken away.
