The first thing you notice as you enter The Manor to enjoy a meal is how happy they seem to be to see you. General Manager Savvas Fotiadis, one of the owners of the Manor, says that the aim of the Manor is for people to feel like they are coming into the Fotiadis home.
“They are not just customers to us,” he said. “They are our guests.”
The reasonably-priced menu is overflowing with possibilities from genuine Greek specialties to Italian favorites to a full range of American fare.
The owners want The Manor to be a family place. Children are most welcome and have a menu of their own.
Seated in a booth in the dining room, one is virtually unaware that anyone else is in the restaurant, which makes the Manor an ideal place for a family meal with young children, a pleasant intimate supper, or a working business lunch.
What is now known as “The Manor” opened in the same location 64 years ago as “Franklin Manor” and is described by Savvas as “the place to go” in the 60s, 70s and 80s. They have just celebrated 10 years as The Manor.
As you begin to look around the restaurant, you realize that the dining room is only a small part of the facility, which boasts six function rooms ranging from the formality of a ballroom which accommodates 400 guests to the casual relaxed atmosphere of smaller areas holding 15 people.
The room names reflect each one’s special décor and feeling: The Athenian Room accommodates 160 guests. The Grecian Room is designed to hold 240 guests. The Ball Room holds 400 guests while smaller areas like the Dining Room, The Franklin Room, The Lounge and the Bridal room have capacities ranging from 20 to 120 people.
The Manor began offering function room space five years ago and they enjoy a busy schedule of events such as weddings, corporate programs, showers, graduations, birthday celebrations, Bar/bat mitzvahs and private parties of all sorts. Coming soon, the owners plan to offer spaces with gardens and a gazebo for elegant outdoor events.
The Manor offers a variety of packages for functions which are carefully outlined on its Web site, www.ourmanor.com. The food served for parties and receptions is prepared by the same person who prepares the restaurant menu, Head Chef, Egi Veliu.
The Manor also presents a variety of entertaining shows which are open to the public. These include comedy and musicals as well as dinner shows.
The heartfelt welcome one feels at this restaurant comes from a deep sense of family among the owners and staff. The restaurant was opened by the Fotiadis family as the realization of a dream. The Manor Web site offers a wonderful quote from Kiki Fotiadis about starting the restaurant with her husband, which the restaurant features on its Web site:
“Welcome into my life-long dream. I had hear of America while growing up, the daughter of expatriated Hellspontian Greek parents, in Russian Georgia. I again heard of this land when my parents and I finally returned to our native Greece.
A dream ... A land conductive to; truth and love; family unity, harmony and joy; freedom, education and progress; the successful and continuous pursuit of dreams and happiness.
My husband Stavros and I shared my dream while raising our children in Greece and chose this land, above all others, to be the land of our dream for our family and our children’s families. Come join us in our pleasant atmosphere. We, along with our children and staff, will honor and value your presence here at the Manor and will extend to you the hospitality this is endemic to our heritage.”
The restaurant is still owned by the Fotiadis Family. Owner/General Manager, Savvas Fotiadis, is the son of the restaurant’s founders, Kiki and the late Stavros Fotiadis. Savvas’ wife, Janet, runs the restaurant with him, along with family members Katrina and Tony Fotiadis.
