The top scorers from each team went on to the grade-level competition, which counted as a stinger event. The competition was tough, as were the questions. The top two scorers from each grade then proceeded on to the final school competition, which was held in January. The finalists were then narrowed down to the top two: Lauren Boylan, an eighth grader on the Silver Team, and Christos Anastos, a sixth grader on the Navy Team. After a close contest with four difficult questions, Christos Anastos was proclaimed the winner of the QMS Geography Bee. Anastos had an hour to complete the 70 question final test which was mailed in to the National Geography Bee headquarters. They are awaiting the final results to see if he has moved on to the state-level championship.
Sixth Grade Team Winners: Chris Silverio, Craig Smith, Allison Smith, Nick Demassi, Christos Anastos, Tyler Kane, Jamie Mortensen, Tim Laffin, Greg Bench, Matt Nugent, Kevin Mackie and Eva Ratcliffe.
Grade Level Winners: Greg Bench and Christos Anastos.
Seventh Grade Team Winners: Chris Collins, Mitchell Negus, Barry O’Sullivan, Krish Bandi, Leon Larkin, Cameron Cullaz, Adam Hemond, Chris Murphy, Kevin Giffels, Taylor Donnelly, Nathaniel Somes and Jeremy Breef-Pilz.
Grade Level Winners: Leon Larkin and Kevin Giffels.
Eighth Grade Team Winners: Kevin Curran, Matt Colletti, David Eberhart, Chris Resh, Katie Hamel, Shannon Moore, Felipe Brown, Walter Xu, Lauren Boylan, John Basker, Mike Mallon and David Brown.
Grade Level Winners: John Basker and Lauren Boylan.
