Mansfield man involved in multiple vehicle car crash

An 18-year-old Mansfield man was involved in a five-vehicle car crash on Interstate 95 in North Attleboro on Saturday, July 21, which resulted in two fatalities and two serious injuries.

Thomas J. McCarthy Jr. was driving a 1995 Saturn SL1, but was uninjured in the crash.

According to police, Isaac D. Souza, 21, of Leominster was driving a 1998 Honda Civic sedan when the vehicle collided with an unoccupied vehicle in the breakdown lane of Rte. 95 at 2:43 a.m. Following the collision, Souza’s vehicle caused a crash involving three other vehicles.

An investigation later found there may have been two other dark colored Honda Accords or similar type vehicles, one that was altered to be a “low rider” type vehicle.

Police said the two vehicles may be damaged as a result of the accident, and asks anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information about the two vehicles, contact Trooper Dan Giossi in the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office at (508)-993-2016 or the Foxboro Barracks at (508)-543-8550.

Police said Michael G. Doble, 36, North Attleboro, was driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota that rolled over in the accident and was killed in the accident along with Souza. Both men were declared deceased at the scene of the accident.

Claudia DeLeone, 22, a passenger in Souza’s vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. Jose Goubeia, 21, of Somerville, suffered serious injuries and was also transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital. A 16-year-old male juvenile passenger in Goubeia’s vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital.

This crash remains under investigation by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Attleboro Fire Department, Attleboro Police Department, North Attleboro Police Department, and Mass Highways assisted troopers at the scene. Route 95 North was closed for approximately four hours during cleanup of the accident. Traffic was diverted off of Route 95 North and onto Route 1 North in Attleboro.
