Littleton -

The annual Country Fair has been happening in the town of Littleton going back to the 1800’s, and it is coming this year on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. The fair was originally organized by many of the women’s groups within the Unitarian Church as a fundraiser for the church and various charitable organizations within the community.

The fair was held back in the early days on the church property, which is located across from the fire station. Many of the events were held in the horse and buggy stalls that were attached to the church. When the church replaced the carriage stalls with a Sunday school wing, the fair moved across the street to Fay Park. Over the years the fair has expanded from the front lawn of the church property to encompassing the entire park end to end.

The fair is well known for the delicious jams and jellies that are homemade by church members. Crafts items, a used book table, puppet and magic shows, and a giant trash and treasure booth are just some of the attractions one can expect to find when coming to the fair. One can also hear live music coming from the gazebo, inflatable kid’s games, lunch items, homemade baked goods, drinks, and face painting.

A special feature this year is a magic show performed by Greg McAdams. Greg has performed for the last two years to sell out crowds. Greg has been making events magical and memorable since the age of 15. He started practicing his magic skills at the age of 8 and is now making a full time living performing his magic. Greg performs many different shows with his main focus on educational programs and unforgettable kid shows. Greg visits elementary schools and libraries all across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine with both his “Say No to Drugs” and his “I Love to Read” magic shows.

Magic and puppet shows are planned throughout the entire day. Long time puppet master Andy Bowers will be at the fair once again with his creative and imaginative puppet show. In between the puppet and magic shows will be children’s music along with sing-a-long songs performed by Kurt Landfors.

Littleton Cub Scouts will be running an Egg Drop Challenge at the Fire House at 2 p.m. All Littleton children are invited to bring a packaged raw egg, to be dropped from the Fire Department’s tallest ladder to see if it can survive the fall. Note: packages must arrive unsealed for inspection at check-in. Go to www.Littletonpack21.org for details on how to prepare and enter the Egg Drop Challenge.

Members of First Church Unitarian are especially pleased that the church has voted to donate a portion of the fair profits back to our community. The Social Action Committee of First Church Unitarian is still in the decision making process for determining which local Littleton charity will be the recipient this donation. Past recipients have been Littleton Council on Aging and the Littleton Council of Churches. Members of the church are so pleased that the community is supportive of the fair that it only seems appropriate to give back to our community.
