Lois Crook, grew up in Milton

Lois Crook, 70, died at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, August 11, 2008.

She was born in Boston, grew up in Milton lived in South Weymouth for 43 years before moving to Braintree 4 years ago.

 She graduated from Milton High School in 1955 and received a bachelor’s degree at the University of New Hampshire in 1959, where she belonged to the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Mrs. Crook was the wife of the late David R. Crook.

Charles I. "Heavy Chevy" Roosa, Jr., 73, formerly of Marshfield died July 30, 2008.

He was born in Cambridge.

He was a resident of Holbrook for the past 12 years and formerly lived in Marshfield and Randolph.

 He was an independent operator for H.P. Welch Trucking.

He was the husband of Patricia A. (Peters) Roosa.

MaryAnne Wilson, employee of local florist shops

MaryAnne (Conlon),  Wilson, 66, of Duxbury,  died June 22, at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston.

She was born in Boston. She graduated from Dorchester High School and attended Rittner’s School of Floral Design.

 She was an active member of Duxbury Senior Center where she designed and decorated the center for many holidays.

Virginia M. Williams

  Virginia M. Williams, 70, formerly of Braintree, died at home, June 17, 2008.

She was born in Brockton, she had lived in Braintree for 62 years until moving to Holbrook 8 years ago.

 She was the daughter of Selina ''Helen'' Williams and the late Harold Williams.

 She was the niece of Marie Williams and Robert Williams, both of Hingham.

 She leaves many cousins.

Celeste E. Conway, money sorter

Celeste E. Edie (Cesario), Conway, 83, formerly of South Boston, died after a brief illness, May 18, 2008.

She was born in Boston and died at the Kindred Healthcare of Braintree.

 She graduated from South Boston High School and was a retired money sorter for the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. She retired in 1988 after 25 years of service. Her main passion was her family and she enjoyed cooking.

Roy W. Beaton Sr., worked for MIB Inc. of Westwood

Roy W. Beaton, Sr., 73, died May 15, 2008 at Brockton Hospital.

He was born in Quincy.  
He worked for MIB Inc. of Westwood for over 20 years.

He was an active member of the Dalton Club. Resident of Holbrook for 31 years.

He was the husband of Grace M. (Wilkinson) Beaton.

He leaves his children and their spouses, William J. Pitts and his wife Kathleen of East Taunton, John M. Beaton and his wife Jean of Plymouth and Roy W. Beaton Jr. and his wife Susan of Holbrook.

Paul J. Welsch, Boston Police Officer

  Paul J. Welsch, 81, retired B.P.D., died May 13 at Coyne Health Care in Rockland.

 He was born in Boston where he grew up and attended school.

He was a Boston Police Officer for many years retiring several years ago.

 He had been a resident of Holbrook for 30 years.

He was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran.

John J. McCarthy Jr., police officer

Lt. John J. McCarthy, Jr., 59, died unexpectedly at his home in Holbrook on May 7, 2008.

 He has been a Holbrook resident since 1973.

 He was born in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School.

He received a degree in criminal justice from Northeastern University.

Joseph Doherty, worked for Bell Linen Service

 Joseph, JD "Joe" Doherty, died May 3, 2008.

He grew up in Holbrook and was a graduate of Holbrook High School.

Bell Linen Service employed him.

 He was the son of Mariana A. and James M. Doherty both of Holbrook.

Grace M. Puntiri, worked at the Beneficial Finance Company

Holbrook Grace M. (Antonino) Puntiri, 92, formerly of Boston, died March 22, 2008 at the Hancock Park Nursing & Rehabilitation  Center in Quincy.

 She had lived in Holbrook for over 50 years. She was a member of the Golden Agers for many years, a volunteer for the hot lunch program and worked at the polls in Precinct I.

She retired from The Beneficial Finance Company in Brockton where she had worked for over 23 years.

Thomas J. Waldron, truck driver

Thomas J. "Tom" Waldron, 80, died unexpectedly Feb.  7, 2008.

Mr. Waldron was born in Boston and has lived in Holbrook for the past 53 years. He was a retired truck driver and member of the Teamsters Union Local #25, Charlestown for over 30 years. After his retirement he went to work for Russelectric of Hingham and has worked there for the past 20 years. He was a WWII US Army Veteran and a Disabled American Veteran.

He was the husband of the late Louise C. (Dunnigan) Waldron.

 He leaves his children, Coleen A. Cummings of Lakeville and Thomas M. Waldron of Hanson.

Mary Ellen Tremlett, member of the Holbrook Council on Aging

Mary Ellen (Groezinger) Tremlett, a homemaker, formerly of Holbrook and 1000 Southern Artery in Quincy, died on Jan. 27, 2008 in Dorchester.

She had reached her 100th birthday in August of 2007.

 She was born in Boston, she was raised and educated in Dorchester and had lived at 1000 Southern Artery until 1984 when she moved to Holbrook.

 She was a member of the Holbrook Council on Aging. She enjoyed bingo and was an avid Red Sox, Bruins and Boston sports fan.

Stanislaus W. Godek, worked in security

Stanislaus W. Stan Godek, 88, died Jan. 26, 2008.

He was born in West Rutland, VT and died at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.

Mr. Godek began his military career in the United States Marines, having served during WWII. Upon being discharged he joined the United States Army and spent the next 20 years serving his country. When he retired from military service he began working security for the GSA where he served for over 17 years before his retirement.

Austin W. Burke, partner of Burke Distributing

Austin W. Burke of Braintree and Colchester, VT died  Dec. 28, 2007.

Mr. Burke was born and raised in Clinton, where he graduated from Clinton High School and then went on to St. Michaels College in VT where he graduated in 1960.

He was a retired partner of Burke Distributing in Randolph. Among his interests, he loved history and was a collector of antiques. He loved to spend his summers on Lake Champlain in VT.  

He leaves his wife Judith (Hendy) Burke.

Gilbert C. Strickland, painter

Gilbert C. "Gil" Strickland, 68, formerly of Rockland, died Nov. 4, at the New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton.

He grew up in Rockland and graduated from Rockland High School. He was a painter and member of the Painters Union for 20 years.

He was a member of the Randolph Elks 2130. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and Patriots.

He was a resident of Holbrook since 1965.
He was husband pf the late Joan C. (Henderson) Strickland.

Regina M. Nee, foster parent

Regina M. (Hally) Nee, 67, died Nov. 2, 2007.

Mrs. Nee grew up in Framingham and graduated from Framingham High School. She was a foster parent for the Department of Social Services. She loved cooking and was famous for her fudge and cookies.

She was a resident of Holbrook for the past 40 years.
She leaves her husband Thomas D. Nee.

Richard Morgan, worked for Revere Sugar Co.

Richard Morgan Holbrook Richard "Dick" "Red" Morgan, formerly of Weymouth died  October 30, 2007.

Mr. Morgan was born in Boston and had lived in Weymouth prior to moving to Holbrook in 1979.  

He was retired from the Revere Sugar Co., where he had worked for 30 years. After his retirement he went to work for the Paperama Company, Hingham. He worked at Paperama from 1983 to 1991.

He was a United States Marine Corps WWII and Korean Conflict Veteran. During WWII he participated in action against the enemy on Okinawa Shima, Ryukyu Island.

John H. Cahill, Jr., truck driver

John H. Cahill, Jr., 83, died on October 2, 2007 at South Shore Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Cahill was born in Deland, FL, grew up and attended school in Braintree before moving to Holbrook in 1953. He worked as a truck driver for many years. He was a US Marine Corp WWII Veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre.

He leaves his wife Kathleen B. (Sullivan) Cahill, his sons, Dr. John H. Cahill, III of Rye, NH, Joseph Dewey Cahill of Whitman, he was father of the late Robert L. Cahill. He was brother of the late Jane Cahill, Lillian Bourtin, Winnifred Owen and Mary Jalbert. He leaves 6 grandchildren.

Mary E. (Williams) Dulong, 81, of Holbrook, formerly of Randolph, died Oct 4, 2007.

 She was raised in Melrose, and resided in Randolph and Holbrook most of her life.

She was employed by South Shore Hospital in Weymouth for more than 20 years as an admitting clerk, retiring from the day surgery department.

She was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed dancing and bingo.

She leaves her children, Arthur L. and his wife Karen Dulong of Reading, J. Mark and his wife Susan Dulong of New Jersey, Diane M. and her husband Keith Raymond of Brockton; her grandchildren, Kristin Kuperstein, Thomas Dulong, James Dulong Jr., Michael Dulong and Katharine Raymond; her great-grandchildren Emily and Annie; she was sister of the late Robert and Richard Williams.

Jody L. Cummings, formerly of Holbrook

Jody L. (Heartery) Cummings, 41, of Hilton Head Island, SC, formerly of Holbrook, passed away unexpectedly July 28, in South Carolina.

Ms. Cummings graduated from Blue Hills Regional Technical School in Canton.

She enjoyed the out-doors, the beach, and riding her bike.

She leaves two daughters, Jessica Cummings of Holbrook; and Olivia Miserandino of Spring Hills, FL, A sister Theresa Woodward of NH., hHer brothers, John Heartery, Thomas Heartery of Holbrook, and William Heartery of Rockland . She was sister of the late Paul Heartery; and daughter of the late Paul and Theresa Heartery; she also leaves many nieces and nephews, and a great-granddaughter.
