Community Charter earns two victories, readies for tournament

Cambridge -The girls and boys basketball teams at the Community Charter School of Cambridge earned two very important wins over the Academy of Pacific Rim on Friday, March 2. The girls won in overtime, 29-27, and the boys won, 50-48.
The Lady Cougars played amazing, with a game total of 22 steals and nine blocks. At the end of the first half, they trailed by two, 13-11. Early in the second stanza, CCSC soon pulled ahead with effective play. The team grabbed a game total of 29 rebounds and a recorded three turnovers. At the end of regulation, the score was tied 25-25, thus forcing an overtime period. In the extra minutes, the Lady Cougars displayed great teamwork and determination and won the game.
The boys team earned its victory with tremendous teamwork. They hauled in a game total of 31 rebounds. Even though their turnover rate was high, they still pulled through with a victory. Jude Odige had a game total of 14 points and two rebounds. Bayoan Garcia contributed 13 points to the game and three assists, the most on the team. Both Chuck Tibbs and Wale Wright supplied seven points, while Michael Elysee added five points to the board.
On the season for the girls, eighth-grader Tanya Dymski leads the team in scoring, as she averages eight points a game. She also gets three rebounds per contest and has a recorded 45 steals. Freshman Shawnay Boyd-Haynes averages five points a game and has a season total of 33 steals. Sophomore Rachel Jean-Louis leads the team in rebounds with five each game. She also averages four points a game and has a season total of 35 steals.
For the boys, sophomore Bayoan Garcia leads the team in points with 13 per game. He also averages five rebounds, four assists, and has a season total of 33 steals. Sophomore Jude Odige averages 10 points a game and two rebounds. Freshmen Geo Morgan averages eight points a game and six rebounds. He leads the team in blocks and steals, while sophomore Michael Elysee grabs a team high of seven boards per game.
In the upcoming Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization Tournament, both the Cougars and the Lady Cougars must continue to play with focus. Players on each squad will have to work as a team in order to accomplish their goal of winning the tournament.
